BOSTON -- So much for Bostons mini surge of offence. Anthony Rizzo Jersey . The Red Sox managed just two hits and were beaten by the Chicago White Sox 4-0 on Monday night, Bostons sixth loss in seven games. Scott Carroll pitched 6 2-3 innings of one-hit ball, and Dayan Viciedo hit a three-run homer off Clay Buchholz in the fourth as Boston was shut out for the ninth time this season and tied its season-low hit output. Adam Dunn also homered off Buchholz, but he recovered well from the rocky start and kept the Red Sox in the game. All four runs came on home runs as Buchholz (3-5) allowed five hits, struck out a season-high seven and walked one. "Its been real frustrating, especially tonight. Buchholz threw a good game," said Boston leadoff hitter Brock Holt, who went 0-for-4. "We werent able to get anything going. Two hits. Two singles." A.J. Pierzynskis third-inning single was the lone hit off Carroll. Jackie Bradley Jr. singled off Javy Guerra to lead off the eighth for the only other Red Sox hit. Boston entered Monday having scored 22 runs in its last four games, but allowed 32 during the same span. Buchholz was willing to talk about the mistakes he made to Dunn in the second and Viciedo in the fourth, but stood up for his teammates when asked about the lack of run support. The Red Sox scored just one run in his previous start, a 2-1 loss to the Cubs in Boston. "Im done talking about the offence. Its not like theyre out there not trying or anything," he said. "Its just not working right now. Im not going to answer any more questions about our offence." Making the eighth -- and best -- start of his career, Carroll (3-5) walked two and struck out five while shutting down the defending World Series champions. Dunn hit a solo homer in the second inning and doubled and scored on Viciedos home run in the fourth. The start of the game was delayed by 39 minutes because of severe weather moving through the area. There were two brief but torrential downpours during the game that sent fans scurrying but didnt stop play. NOTES: Carroll allowed seven runs on 10 hits and three walks in six innings in his previous start. ... The Red Sox won a managers challenge at first base even though replays showed that Jim Joyces original call, that Mike Napolis foot came off the base, was correct. ... The Red Sox activated 1B/OF Mike Carp from the 15-day disabled list and optioned INF Jonathan Herrera to Triple-A Pawtucket. ... The Red Sox fell to 2-5 against Chicago teams, having been swept by the Cubs at home last week in a three-game interleague series. Steve Cishek Jersey . This week, topics cover the World Series champion Red Sox, John Farrell and what to look forward to this off-season. Ben Zobrist Jersey . Philbin said Thursday he wants players to treat one another with civility and he wont tolerate anything less. Speaking to TSN 1200 on Friday afternoon, Murray said that since he found out his uncle, Senators general manager Bryan Murray, was diagnosed with cancer in June, there have been moments where he has wondered if he made the right career move in jumping to Buffalo. Murray left the Senators organization midway through last season to take the vacant general manager’s job with the Sabres. “Sure. I’ve quite frankly have second guessed everything that has gone on since..and [Bryan] knows that too,” Tim Murray said. “What’s happened has happened and I’m here, but under different circumstances - certainly if I knew that earlier, I wouldn’t have been very anxious to be out the door. I would have been quite content to know that I would have been his assistant for as long as he wanted.” Tim Murray found out about Bryan’s cancer diagnosis while he was in Philadelphia on June 24, preparing for his first NHL Entry Draft as a general manager. Tim had spent parts of seven seasons under Bryan in the Senators front office and was devastated by the news. “He found out on a Tuesday and he called me the next day on a Wednesday. I was just about the meet a couple of agents and it just dropped me,” Murray said. “I know that many families havee been through it, but when it hits close you pay more attention. Javier Baez Jersey. . Tim says he speaks to Bryan on a regular basis and while the conversations start out about the cancer treatments, they inevitably turn to hockey talk. “We talk once a week, anyway, and I’ll call and say we’re not talking hockey, I kind of know his schedule for chemo and testing, so that’s what we talk about,” Murray added. “But we end up talking hockey, mostly from his initiation. But that’s not the intent of it at all. But the last 5 minutes always comes back to hockey and a couple of tips for me with the situation that I’m in. I can get emotional or frustrated and he can always help bring me back.” In an interview with TSN’s Michael Farber that aired on Thursday night, Bryan Murray said that he has Stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to other parts of his body. The Senators general manager indicated that the cancer was preventable and could have been avoided had he underwent a routine colonscopy 10 years ago. Bryan Murray’s message to viewers to have a regular check-up and colonoscopy was not lost on his nephew, who watched the TSN story on Friday morning. Murray said the Sabres team trainer came into his office on Friday and told him he had booked a colonoscopy for him for January 21. “That conversation literally happened 15 minutes ago and I’m on my way in January,” said Murray.
