BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins are having a little fun so far this season watching 6-foot-9 defenceman Zdeno Chara turn into a power forward on the power play. Austin Seferian-Jenkins Jersey . Chara scored a power-play goal and helped set up Torey Krugs score with the man advantage by just standing in front of the net, leading the Bruins to a 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. "If you dont have a play, throw it down front to Z (Chara) and (Milan Lucic) and theyll battle," Krug said. "We have a good thing going so far. Were having fun." Brad Marchand scored the tiebreaking goal 36 seconds into the second period and Tuukka Rask made 25 saves as the Bruins improved to 2-0. Jordan Caron added an even-strength score for Boston, which won its season opener against Tampa Bay on Thursday. "Its always been a basic part of my game to work hard," Chara said. "When Im in there, I might as well enjoy it." Henrik Zetterberg scored for the Red Wings, who are in the same division with the Bruins after the NHL realigned following last season. Detroits Jimmy Howard, playing his third straight game, made 33 saves. The Red Wings were playing consecutive road nights after beating Carolina 3-2 in overtime. "Its not easy when theres somebody thats 6-foot-8 standing in front of you," Howard said. "Its something youve got to figure out and try and find a way to try and find the puck. But its extremely difficult with him in front." On the opening shift of the second period, Marchand broke in and fired a wrist shot that caromed into the net off the far post, pushing Boston ahead 2-1. Carons goal gave the Bruins a 3-1 edge midway into the second period. Reilly Smith backhanded a pass from the slot to Caron, who one-timed a shot past Howard from the top of the right faceoff circle. Chara, playing in front of the net on the power play, collected a pass in front and looked like a polished goal scorer, shifting around Howard before tucking a shot inside the right post midway into the third. Krug collected an assist. Krug unloaded a slap shot from the left point that gave Boston a 1-0 lead midway into the opening period. It came just 15 seconds after Niklas Kronwall was sent off for holding. "In the second period thats something we talked about," Krug said of Charas play in front. "I think I talked to Krej (David Krejci) about it, What should I do with the puck? He said, Just give it to Z, hes going to win every battle." The Red Wings tied it late in the period when Zetterberg collected a rebound in front and slipped a shot by Rask inside the right post. The score came after a pass along the boards appeared to hit a glove on Detroits bench and dropped to the ice. The Bruins briefly stopped while the Red Wings broke out with the puck. Rask made a nice sliding stop on Justin Abdelkaders bid from in close a few minutes before Zetterbergs goal. Boston outshot the Red Wings 37-26. "They won in every statistic tonight," Howard said. "Every battle. Im not going to make that excuse that we were tired or anything like that because I kind of think its pathetic." Marchand took a hard hit and was face down on the ice for a while early in the second. He was levelled when Abdelkader left his feet and blind-sided the winger. Marchand was helped to the bench, but returned later in the period. NOTES: It was Krugs first regular season goal. He had four in his first five playoff games last spring. ... Bumgarner became the first pitcher in 48 years to hit two grand slams in a season, and Posey also hit a slam Sunday that boosted the San Francisco Giants over the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4. "Everybody was excited to get a big hit like that," Bumgarner said of Posey. "That put us back in the lead. Thats what big-time players do and hes a good one already." Posey and Bumgarner became the first batterymates in major league history to hit grand slams in the same game. "Thats pretty cool," Bumgarner said. "This game is full of strange statistics. It seems like there is a first every day. Its crazy to get that many opportunities as a pitcher." A double by Bumgarner helped set up Poseys slam in the fifth. Bumgarner homered the next inning -- he also hit a slam on April 11 against Colorado. "All we could do was shake our heads," Posey said. "I was asking Rags (Dave Righetti) if any pitcher had ever hit two slams in the same season." The last pitcher to launch two slams in a season was Tony Cloninger, who hit both in the same game for Atlanta on July 3, 1966, against the Giants at Candlestick Park. Diamondbacks catcher Tuffy Gosewisch came out to talk to Matt Stites about how they were going to pitch to Bumgarner. "Everybody knows hes a good hitter," Gosewisch said. "I wanted to go first pitch fastball down and away and it just ran back over the plate." Bumgarner (10-7) threw 6 1-3 innings to end a personal three-game losing streak. He gave up four runs and 10 hits, striking out five. Vidal Nuno (0-1) allowed four runs and six hits in five innings during his second start with Arizona. The Giants finished the first half by winning five of nine. That followed a stretch of 18 losses in 23 games that cost them their lead in the NL West. "The challenge for us is to look at the overall record," Posey said. "Were still in a good spot. We have to go forward." Cody Ross hit a two-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who are 5-8 in their past 13 games. Martin Prado had three hits and droove in a run. T.J. Yeldon Jersey. Nuno, acquired from the New York Yankees in a trade for Brandon McCarthy, had not allowed a run in his first 11 innings with the Diamondbacks before Poseys slam. Bumgarner escaped a perilous sixth because of some fancy defensive plays, including his own. Ender Inciarte and Prado each singled to start the inning. With Paul Goldschmidt batting, Bumgarner caught Inciarte taking off early for third for the first out. Right fielder Hunter Pence, who also threw out a runner at third in the first inning, tracked down Goldschmidts drive one step before slamming into the fence and third baseman Pablo Sandoval made a diving stop of Mark Trumbos sharp grounder to end the inning. Nuno breezed through the first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. Bumgarners one-out double started the rally. Pence was hit by a pitch and Sandoval, who had three hits, singled ahead of Posey, who homered into the left-field bleachers. "I feel like weve been needing the big hit," Posey said. "Im just trying to get a run on the board. Getting four across was great." A double, an infield fielding error and a walk set up Bumgarners slam in the sixth against Stites. Bumgarner earlier victimized Jorge De La Rosa of the Rockies. "We had a good conversation about how we were going to attack Bumgarner," Stites said. "I just missed my spot.
