MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Mario Balotelli gave AC Milan fans a goal to savour, and then a brief cause for concern. Balotelli and Mbaye Niang scored first-half goals, and AC Milan controlled long stretches of play in what became a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy in the third-place match of the Guinness International Champions Cup tournament Wednesday night. Balotelli scored in the 17th minute, and Niang extended the lead with a nifty score in the 40th. But the storied Italian club, which opens its league play at home later this month, lost Balotelli in the 79th minute. He played a ball across the field and went down immediately, holding the back of his right leg around the knee area, though apparently was only cramping up on a night where the heat index in South Florida was 96 degrees at game time. "We played a good match from a technical and effort standpoint," AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said. "We made a few mistakes, but feel satisfied." For the most part, so did the Galaxy. who substituted liberally at halftime and in the second half. Galaxy star Landon Donovan was among those who logged only 45 minutes in the exhibition. "I thought it was a good experience for our group," Donovan said. "Theyre a good team. Theres a reason why these guys are playing for AC Milan. I enjoyed it. I think the guys enjoyed it. It was difficult, but all in all, a great experience." AC Milan won two of its three matches in this series of exhibitions among eight club teams. The Galaxy, which beat two-time defending Serie A champion Juventus earlier in the tournament, was the only U.S.-based team in the event and dropped two of three games. The inaugural tourney wrapped up later Wednesday night, with Real Madrid beating Chelsea 3-1 for the title. Balotellis free kick from about 30 yards in the 10th minute curled left off his foot but was saved by Galaxy goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini. AC Milan didnt wait much longer to break through. The Galaxy misplayed a clearing pass in the 17th minute, and Andrea Poli played a ball into the box for Balotelli, who was marked by two defenders. He shook free with ease, splitting the pair and his low shot beat Cudicini. Donovan had a shot to tie in the 23rd minute, his blast from the top of the box going off the head of defender Cristian Zapata, who was briefly shaken up. Donovan set up another chance in the 36th, taking a run down the right side before dropping a pass into the centre for Juninho, who didnt get much on his shot, the ball skipping well wide to the left. Before much longer, it was 2-0. Niang faked around a number of defenders, then feinted clear of L.A.s Todd Dunivant before nonchalantly sending a low left-footed strike inside the far post. "A really nice goal," Allegri said. Cudicini made some fine plays, including coming off his line in the 26th minute to deflect a point-blank opportunity taken by Stephan El Shaarawy. Cudicini was among the halftime substitutions made by Galaxy coach Bruce Arena. "If we can learn from these three games, its going to help improve our team for the remaining games in Major League Soccer," Arena said. "Thats whats important." Turns out, he enjoys beating JGR so much more. Logano changed his team and his car, just not the result, and raced to his third straight Dover victory in the Nationwide Series on Saturday. Unlike the last two, Logano won for Penske Racing. His previous two Dover victories came under the Gibbs banner. This time, Logano held off JGR drivers Brian Vickers, Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch for the checkered flag. "I wanted to beat them really bad," Logano said. Busch, who won the Truck Series race Friday, dominated most of the race and led 72 of the 200 laps. But he was 10th off the final restart, couldnt drive his way to the front of the field and was fifth. Vickers was second, Kenseth third, and Trevor Bayne fourth. Logano raced to his first Nationwide victory of the season after winning nine times last year. "It is amazing to finally win for the captain, Roger Penske," Logano said. "It feels good to get back in Victory Lane." Logano won for the 19th time in 114 career Nationwide starts. Busch was trying to sweep the NASCAR tripleheader at Dover but fell short in trying win all three for the first time since 2010. With the race under caution, Busch took four tires while Logano went with two on the final pit stop. Logano led the field to green and pulled away. "Its my fault. Im aggravated with myself," Busch said. "I made the wrong call there. I just figured more would take four." The 23-year-old Logano came into NASCARR with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008 with the nickname "Sliced Bread.ddddddddddddquot; Hes yet to make the leap to the next level and won only two Cup races. JGR wanted to keep Logano even after signing Matt Kenseth. But they didnt have the pieces in place for a fourth full-time Cup team, and AJ Allmendingers failed drug test opened the No. 22 seat at Penske Racing that Logano pursued. "This is definitely fun to come to Dover and finally beat those Gibbs cars," Logano said. Logano credited crew chief Jeremy Bullins for making the right call and going with two tires on the last pit. Bullins made a last-second audible to go with two after he saw Busch and go with four. "That was the only thing I was watching," Bullins said. "I was watching to see what they did, and saw a bunch of cars coming that had taken two so we knew we would have a cushion and opted for two tires at the last minute." Good call. Busch was denied his third straight Nationwide win and seventh of the season. "To finally beat that 54 car, that was the team I worked with for the last seven years or so since my Nationwide debut really," Logano said. "To beat them means a lot to me after they have been winning so much this year." Points leader Regan Smith was ninth. Vickers jumped from fifth to third in the standings, 42 points behind Smith. "We need to chip back away at the points where were really racing toward a championship," Vickers said. "It was a good day, but we want to win." Leave that to Logano. ' ' '
