NEW YORK — Nearly a month ago Scott Feldman Jersey , the e New York Mets. Now they are on the verge of going scoreless in New York. The Nationals seek their first run since Wednesday night when they try to avert a three-game sweep by the Mets on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field.Article continues below ...Since Ryan Zimmerman hit a game-winning, two-run homer in the ninth inning off Seranthony Dominguez to beat the Philadelphia Phillies, the Nationals have not scored. In those 27 innings, the Nationals are batting .176 (16-for-91) with 28 strikeouts while going 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position and 3-for-27 with men on base.It is the first time that Washington has been blanked in three straight games since leaving Montreal after the 2004 season. The last instance of the franchise getting shut out in three straight games was April 13-15, 2004, against the Miami Marlins when Brad Penny, Dontrelle Willis and Carl Pavano did it.The Nationals are coming off consecutive 3-0 losses to the Mets, the same team they beat 25-4 at home on July 31. Since scoring the most runs in a game in franchise history, the Nationals are 11-13.“It’s been difficult,” Nationals center fielder Adam Eaton said. “It’s very mind-numbing because we do have such good talent and we have guys that have unbelievable numbers throughout their career. And for some reason, this year we haven’t really been able to put it together.”Eaton had two of Washington’s seven hits and reached four times Saturday. The Nationals desperately tried to get a spark, and they began the game with consecutive bunts, a hit-and-run play and a delayed steal.“I’m trying to get things going, and moving things around and see what happens,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez. “It’s like somebody shut the door to get home. We got to get home. We got to get home.”Bryce Harper is hitless in 11 at-bats during the shutout streak and hitless in his last 13 at-bats since a fourth-inning single Wednesday.Since suffering the worst loss in team history, the Mets (58-71) are 14-9 in their last 20 games. They also are 11-6 in their last 17 after Amed Rosario homered and had three hits Saturday.“I think the guys know that we’re better than we should’ve been in the past, and we’re starting to play like a team that’s more capable,” Mets manager Mickey Callaway said. “It’s fun that nobody’s ever lost their enthusiasm.”New York also had produced consecutive shutouts for the first time since Aug. 11-12, 2015, when Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom beat the Colorado Rockies. This time http://www.redsfanproshop.com/authentic-cliff-pennington-jersey , Jason Vargas and Zack Wheeler pitched seven innings apiece and the Mets allowed three runs or less for the eighth straight game while improving to 8-6 against the Nationals.“We know it’s the Nationals,” Callaway said. “We know that we had our struggles against them. You can feel it. There’s a lot of energy.”During this shutout streak, Max Scherzer, Gio Gonzalez and Tanner Roark have produced effective outings for the Nationals. On Sunday, Jefry Rodriguez will make his eighth appearance and sixth career start.Rodriguez is 1-1 with a 5.46 ERA so far and is facing the Mets for the first time. As a starting pitcher, he is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA. He last pitched Aug. 18 in a 7-5 loss to Miami when he allowed four runs in five innings of a no-decision.New York’s starting pitchers own a 1.40 ERA in its last eight games and Steven Matz will try to keep it going. Matz will make his third start since ending a disabled list stint with a forearm strain. He last pitched in Tuesday’s 6-3 win over San Francisco when he allowed two runs in five innings. Matz was on the mound for the 25-4 loss in Washington when he allowed seven runs and eight hits while getting two outs. The left-hander is 1-3 with a 10.61 ERA in his last five starts after posting a 3.38 ERA before the All-Star break. He is 0-2 with a 7.31 ERA in four starts against the Nationals this season. In his career, he is 1-4 with a 4.00 ERA in eight starts against Washington. Two of their favorite teams both scored big wins. After what happened for Boston on Sunday, the Dodgers need to wonder why they can’t get a night game for the Rams going tonight? For Milwaukee, pitching was key on their way to a 4-0 victory and a 2-1 series lead. The Brewers staff held the Dodgers to 5 hits, no runs scored, and it was all led by our very own Jhoulys Chacin. And doesn’t Chacin just keep grinding the grits of Anaheim?Chacin went 5.1 shutout innings, giving up only 3 hits and 2 walks. He did something about that good a couple of times for us back in 2016. On September 14 against the Mariners he went 6 innings and gave up only 3 hits and 1 run. And on October 2nd (the last game of the season) against the Astros he went 7 innings and yielded 4 hits and no runs.By then the Angels were 23 games out of it and nobody cared. And isn’t it ironic (at least for those of you who have been around long to remember the meme)? Chacin’s success comes from moar sliderz!?.But an intriguing part of this series is the matchup between the Brewers bullpen, which went 4 guys deep last night, and the Dodgers offensive depth, which went 4 deep out of the dugout. Up until last night, the tactical battle between the two has resulted in two losing sides. But last night Milwaukee’s bullpen clearly won out.We had other intrigue, too. Such as Manny Machado getting bit by the Chase Utley rule......And the Dodgers stadium marketing team encouraging the world to go out and Google “Ass”. (I know you are going to do it Jose Peraza Jersey , just to see what happens. If you are enlightened at all, congratulations. You are no longer 12-years old.)....Joe Buck’s tie.....Tonight we have the return of the ALCS kicking things off at 2:09 PM PDT. The late game is the NLCS starting at 6:09 PM PDT. That NLCS game is the pivotal Game 4, THE major swing game in a 7-game series. Dodgers win and it’s down to Best Of Three. Brewers win and it’s Dodgers-Need-To-Sweep. Fun stuff...........Suck it up with these Crunch-Time-In-The-Latrine-HaloLinks:A Little Bit Of Angels NewsThe big story about the Angels yesterday is that managerial candidates are tasked with filling out a 2-hour written exam. You all took the SAT’s in high school. You know what that’s all about. I suppose it’s not a bad idea in today’s world of baseball, especially with the Angels being the most tempting managerial opening (the Twins being #2?). When you have the prize, you get to choose how to be selective. But anybody who has followed education ‘reform’ over the past 50 years will know that building an exam is like walking into an HR mine field. I wonder if we will ever ever ever get any shot of seeing the questions on that exam?.....Craig Calcaterra has a meaningful point, though. After all the laughing (and there was plenty of that), that test is probably extremely tough..........(True story, I had such poor counseling in high school that I did not know what the SAT test was all about. I signed up for it during home room only because the sign-up sheet was going around the class and everybody else was doing it, too. The week of, we got our reminders. I had to make an emergency request to get time off from work to take the tests, because I had not given it another thought since that sign-up day months earlier. I rolled up on my motorcycle in jeans and a t-shirt, with my pair of #2 pencils in hand, and no tutors or study groups or cramming having been indulged in. Totally clueless, I rolled back out having just scored in the 99th percentile nationwide in math, and 95th percentile in English. All the cool kids in the chess club were thunderstruck.)The Sporting News did NOT award Shohei Ohtani with their RoY trophy. That went to Miguel Andujar and the voting was not even close..........Those voters were not totally brain dead. They did choose Ronald Acuna for NL RoY.Take a moment to re-enjoy Jim Abbot...........If you wish to see in one single chart exactly why the Angels were a non-factor in 2018, here it is. This reddit user charted out all the games from every qualified pitcher. Only Andrew Heaney even makes the list, and he is as middle of the pack as one can get...........Halo prospect Luis Castillo made his AFL debut, and things went pretty awesome for him..........Everywhere In BaseballLet’s go further with the managerial search thing. How much experience does a person actually have to have? And what kind of experiences are best?..........Playoff appearances are a pretty good benchmark, which is why the Braves just gave Brain Snitker a 2-year extension with a 1-year club option. Just getting to the playoffs is only worth a couple of years there, Snitker. If you want 10 years http://www.redsfanproshop.com/authentic-cliff-pennington-jersey , you gotta win the WS...........Experience as a baseball broadcaster and/or analyst has its perks, too. But sometimes those perks are even tastier than the dugout. At least, in the case of MLB Network’s Mark DeRosa, if that dugout is in Arlington, Texas..........Red Sox starting ace Chris Sale had a stomach flu or something. Unlike we common folk who would have to suffer for three days, the Red Sox can afford the cost of a modern hospital bed in a private room for one day of fluids in order to get Sale back on the mound in time for his next ALCS start............I put up the “Craig Kimbrel Flying Albatross” photo for yesterday’s MondoLinks photo wondering if anybody would bite. Nobody did. If I were a Billy Hamilton and on base with Kimbrel on the mound, I would break for the next base as soon as that knucklehead went into that silly-assed pose. A Hamilton would get 4 or 5 free steps alone in the time it would take Kimbrel to get himself back into any kind of position to throw the baseball to an infielder. Anyway, nobody does that. Bummer. But it might not matter, as Kimbrel is deteriorating before our very eyes. remember, nothing is as mercurial as a bullpen arm.........We remain a little amazed at the incredible blown strike call in Game 1 of the ALCS......But it really impacts the way that some factions of enthusiasts have to defend the value of pitch framing..........Joe Buck has already pulled Bob Uecker in to call an inning during the NLCS. This gives us the gift of Uecker, AND the added gift of no Buck for a bit. And, for Buck, he gets to ride on the coattails of a legend for a little bit. Well, that worked out so well for Buck that he reached out to Vin Scully with the same invite. Scully, to his credit, ain’t going to share his glow..........After firing Chili Davis for having the audacity to encourage Chicago batters to consider not trying to hit a home run with every swing, the Cubs have replaced Davis as hitting coach with former Texas Rangers hitting coach Anthony Iapoce. Iapoce has been the Rangers master of Slugging Percentage encouragement since before the 2016 season. In these last 3 years, the Rangers have ranked, MLB-wide, 6th...then 15th...then 19th...........The Yankees could have had Gerrit Cole Matt Harvey Jersey , but it would have cost them Miguel Andujar. I dunno. I think I make that trade..........When you wish to go looking for trouble, such as whether or not there is any racial bias in player ejections within MLB, how does one deal with differences in content of each event? For example, if an Hispanic player throws his helmet in disgust and gets ejected, do you track down all the times ALL players threw their helmets in disgust and measure for racial bias? It doesn’t appear to be the case here, where the author is really only looking at those events which DID result in an ejection..........Lest we forget, women covering sports of all kinds (and baseball is as full of blame as any) have been abused well beyond any sense of acceptability. That they forged ahead anyway is a testimony to their love of their craft, their interest in the sport, and the ability of the people within the sport to evolve for the better. This excerpt from an upcoming article in The New Yorker written by Jane Leavy is a fine example...........The Duffle BagI have always only heard the Vin Scully version of the Kirk Gibson WS home run call. I had never heard the Don Drysdale version. Pretty epic in it’s own right. Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of that game, one of the most dramatic moments of modern times............Joc Pederson took time off from the NLCS to join his wife in the birth of their first child, a daughter.....Then Pederson went back to work, being slotted to replace Chris Taylor as leadoff hitter. Sounds like a no-baby formula household right there. “Thanks, sweetie, see ya in a couple of weeks!”.........David Price finally started a playoff game where his team ended up winning the game. Broken clocks and all that..........Alex Bregman may be right, but he shouldn’t be poking the bear. This is October, and the ALCS was not played back in June when that happened..........Just wait til this little girl grows up to be a Mike Trout fan. Maybe in those years she won’t be sad all the time..........
