Magee scored his 20th goal of the season on a second half penalty kick to lead the hosts to a 1-0 win Saturday and put the Fire on verge of clinching a playoff berth. Toronto (5-17-11) missed their own chances as they fell to Chicago for the eighth time in 16 all-time meetings. "We knew wed have our opportunities, and what we didnt want to do was go down early," Toronto coach Ryan Nelson said. "The chances we had in the first half, they were incredibly good. But we have to finish. We didnt." Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei, making his 2013 debut in goal with Joseph Bendiks one-game suspension, had two saves on the night. The first was a diving stop on a Juan Luis Anangono header that drew raves from Nelson. "That save that Stefan made was probably for me the save of the season," Nelson said. "I havent seen it again but just from watching it live, I cant think of any (better) save that Ive seen." But Frei couldnt stop Magee, who had missed his previous penalty kick try last month against Montreal. "The last one off the post was in the back of my mind," said Magee, now tied for MLS scoring lead with Montreals Marco Di Vaio. "(But) I got up there with all the confidence in the world. I was never going to miss that." Magee had a free kick into a crowd lined in front of Frei and officials called Toronto for a handball in the ensuing scramble, leading to the penalty kick. The Fire forward then skipped a shot into the back of the net. "Very disappointing with the penalty kick decision," defender and captain Steven Caldwell said. "We felt that it was a very poor decision by the referee and it cost us a point, or possibly three." The Fire (14-12-7) are temporarily tied for third in the Eastern Conference with Montreal. A win next Sunday in New York or a loss or tie by New England would lock up Chicagos playoff berth. Toronto and the Fire tied 1-1 on Sept. 11 at BMO Field. Less than 48 hours after the July 1 free agency window opened, the Raptors reached an agreement with their star point guard Kyle Lowry, bringing him back to Toronto for four more years at a reported $48 million, according to several outlets and confirmed by Lowry himself over Twitter. "Toronto will be my home city," the 28-year-old tweeted Wednesday evening, along with a picture of himself decked out in retro Raptors gear. The deal has an early termination option in the final year, allowing Lowry to become an unrestricted free agent after the third season if he chooses. Although the contract has been agreed to in principle, it cant be signed or made official until the NBAs moratorium period is lifted on July 10. Entering his prime, the eight-year vet will be the eighth highest paid point guard in the league next season after finishing third in Win Shares among players at his position last year. His new contract will be more than twice the size of his previous one, a four-year, $23.5 million deal signed in 2010. Despite a turbulent first season in Toronto, one that saw him battle injury and feud with Coach Casey, Lowry came to training camp in the best shape of his playing career and took his game to a new level after a pre-season meeting with Ujiri sparked his competitive nature. With the Raptors contemplating a rebuild following the December trade of Rudy Gay, Lowrys best friend, Ujiri nearly moved the point guard in a deal that would have sent him to New York. Fuelled by Lowrys breakout, the resurgent Raptors continued to win and Ujiri slowly became a believer. Last season, Ujiris first at the helm of the Raptors, was always supposed to be a "show me" year for Lowry. Ujiri had always promised to be fair to Lowry and maintained he would be given the platform to sink or swim. Like any other investment, Lowry is a calculated risk but the Raptors are betting the 2013-14 version will be more of the norm than an anomaly going forward.
