Los Angeles Kings defenceman Slava Voynov pleaded not guilty to a felony domestic violence charge during his arraignment Monday at Los Angeles Superior Court in Torrance, California. Air Force 1 Hvid Danmark . The jury trial is set for March 2, with a pretrial hearing is scheduled on Jan. 28. The charge carries a maximum penalty of nine years in prison. Voynov was charged with felony domestic violence last month by the Los Angeles County district attorneys office. In a statement providing the details of the incident, the district attorneys office said Voynov caused his wife to suffer injuries to her eyebrow, cheek and neck during an argument at their home, several hours after the Kings won an afternoon game. Voynov, 24, has been suspended since his arrest early Oct. 20 at a hospital in Toorance. He had taken his wife to the hospital for treatment of injuries from their home in nearby Redondo Beach. Craig Renetzky, Voynovs attorney, has repeatedly said his client didnt hit his wife. Renetzky also said Voynov shouldnt have been arrested, blaming a misunderstanding between police and Voynovs wife, who speaks even less English than her husband. Voynov was suspended indefinitely by the NHL before he even posted bail on the morning of his arrest. The Kings have wholeheartedly supported the leagues disciplinary actions and they affirmed that position in a statement issued by the team after Voynov was charged.
