Jolyon Palmer says there is always pressure in Formula 1 but is confident he can improve after a mixed start to his debut campaign with Renault. Ray Allen Jersey . After impressing at the season-opening Australian GP, finishing 11th, the Englishman has been out-qualified and out-performed by team-mate Kevin Magnussen in the next three grands prix and even propped up the field in China.Daniil Kvyats demotion back to Toro Rosso has once again proved how harsh the sport can be and with Esteban Ocon set to follow Sergey Sirotkins lead in running in practice for Renault, the pressure is on Palmer. But the 2014 GP2 champion claims that his misfortunes were down to a problem with the floor in his RS16 and after an improved showing in Russia, where Magnussen secured six points, he believes he is moving in the right direction. I had a very good race in Melbourne, I didnt race in Bahrain, and then I turned up to China and someone was already saying theres pressure on, the 25-year-old told Sky Sports News HQs Craig Slater at Renaults test day at Silverstone. The pressure is always on in Formula 1. Theres 22 drivers and everyones looking for performance, the team is pushing hard, were wanting to deliver for ourselves and theres a lot of young drivers that are like me last year, wanting to get in. I put myself under more pressure than anyone else can put me under. I want to do a good job for me. Kevin got points in Russia and I wasnt too far away from him. Im confident Ill be there in the coming races and moving forward with some points. Renault drivers Jolyon Palmer and Kevin Magnussen both think Red Bulls decision to swap Daniil Kvyat with Max Verstappen is unfair. Palmer has also given Kvyat his support after the Russian was unceremoniously dropped by Red Bull and replaced by Max Verstappen so early in the season.I think its unbelievably harsh on Kvyat, he added. He was on the podium in China, Vettel didnt like it but he did nothing wrong, go a podium for it which is Red Bulls only one of the year so far.In Russia he made two mistakes but didnt qualify far off his team-mate, then on the back of a bad race hes dropped. From my view its brutally harsh. Every race live in 2016 Sky Sports F1 brings you every race live in 2016. Fast and easy online upgrade Also See: The F1 Gossip Column Every race live D. J. For the third successive year, Button heads to Silverstone with uncertainty over his future. The 2009 world champion, the most experienced driver on the grid, is out of contract at McLaren at the end of the season with a decision on whether he stays at Woking not expected for several months. This weekend represents the 36-year-olds 17th British GP and he insists his only focus is on performing as well as he can. Theres no point thinking oh, it might be my last because then Ill have to go through those emotions again if it isnt my last, he said.In a way youd say it would be a shame if I didnt think of it as my last and it was my last, but then again I dont want to go into the weekend thinking its going to be my last and you get to the end of the year and thinking b****r it, I actually want to do another year. It doesnt make your last Silverstone grand prix so special then. Craig Slater goes behind the scenes at McLarens headquarters Incredibly, none of Buttons 50 career podium finishes have come at his home race, with the Britons best Silverstone results fourth place in 2004, 2010 and 2014.Asked about the absence of a British GP win on his CV, Button replied: It really hurts, but I cant do anything about that right now. Youve just got to take it.When is the British GP on Sky Sports?Would I rather have a world championship than win the British Grand Prix? Yes, of course. So Ive achieved my main target in Formula 1 already - theres one thing that is definitely missing and thats the British GP.And its not just the win, its even being on the podium. Ive had a couple of races where Ive been close - 2014 a metre away from Daniel Ricciardo. In 2011 I was running in second or third and my wheel fell off coming out of the pits.It just hasnt worked out. But I love the circuit. Its a great layout, the circuit works to me and has been kind to me in terms of outright pace, but the results just havent been there. Jenson Button couldnt hold on to 2nd position throughout the Austrian GP, but was happy to finish sixth Button registered his best result of the season with sixth place in Austria last weekend, but accepts his wait for a Silverstone podium is unlikely to end on Sunday. Glenn Robinson Bucks Jersey. .I can do as good a job as I possibly can, which is what I will do, he said. We wont be fighting for a podium. Theres another British guy that will be, but I wont have that opportunity this year, which is a shame. And I dont know if its going to be my last British Grand Prix, or Im halfway through my career… all I know is that I will do my best with what I have available and thats all I can do in front of my home crowd.Jenson Button on…His favourite British GPs…My first race was pretty awesome. I qualified sixth and overtook Michael Schumacher into turn one, Copse, and finished fifth. I did most of the race on nine [engine] cylinders, not 10, so it was a pretty epic race.DC [David Coulthard] won the race, the British fans went crazy, and we had a massive party after. We had a massive tent where we all wore wigs and acted silly. We dont do that anymore - wear wigs anyway! It was an epic weekend, but very special. The other one was 2014. It was a difficult time for me privately [Jensons father John died earlier that year] and I had a lot of support from the fans which meant a lot.The challenge of Silverstone in 2016…Its not as good as it used to be - the old Bridge and Priory [corners] were fantastic. It has changed a little bit, but turns one and two are pretty epic and didnt exist before. Its just the low-speed corners, but its definitely added something in terms of overtaking and thats what the circuit needed. Its such a difficult circuit to overtake on because its all high-speed, so there are more opportunities. Its taken the thrill away of a qualifying lap but in terms of the race and the action its probably added. The British fans…Its just so nice to see the British fans that come out whether its chucking it down with rain or 30 degrees, which is very unusual.Whatever kit theyre wearing, McLaren kit, Williams kit, Mercedes kit, or whatever, you drive past in your road car or a golf buggy going to the event and theyre all cheering. There is so much support for our sport and we definitely need that. These days there arent so many grands prix that have a full house - but one of those is definitely the British GP.
