There were nine previous instances in Australia and South Africa, including three cases of three Tests in a row at the same place - in Johannesburg in 1905-06 (the first three matches of Englands tour), in Sydney in 1886-87 and 1887-88, and in Melbourne in 1876-77 and 1878-79 (the first three Tests of all).
