LONDON -- Britains anti-doping agency is investigating allegations of wrongdoing in cycling in response to a report about the activities of Team Sky and former Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins.Britains Daily Mail newspaper said U.K. Anti-Doping is investigating the circumstances surrounding the contents of a medical package delivered to the team in France in June 2011. The report did not say what was in the package. We are investigating an allegation of wrongdoing in cycling, UKAD said Friday. To protect the integrity of the investigation we will not comment further.Wiggins won the Dauphine Libere cycling race on the day the package was delivered in June 2011, according to the Mail.Team Sky said it has conducted an internal review to establish the facts and is confident there has been no wrongdoing. We informed British Cycling of the allegation and asked them to contact UKAD, who we will continue to liaise with, Team Sky said in a statement. Team Sky is committed to clean competition. There was no immediate response from Wiggins, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2013 after winning the Tour de France the previous year. There has been scrutiny on Britains eight-time Olympic medalists medical treatment since his confidential medical information last month was in one of the leaks resulting from a cyberattack on the World Anti-Doping Agency database. Wiggins was given three injections of an anti-inflammatory drug between 2011 and 2013 after being granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption, which allows athletes to use otherwise-banned substances because of a verified medical need.Wiggins has defended his need for a TUE, saying he wasnt attempting to gain an advantage.Wiggins became the first British rider to win the Tour de France in 2012 as part of Team Sky. He took the anti-inflammatory drug on the eve of that Tour, the 2011 Tour which took place after the Dauphine Libere race, and also before the 2013 Giro dItalia. Wiggins treatment was approved by cycling authorities and there has been no suggestion any rules have been broken over the TUEs. Bashaud Breeland Super Bowl Jersey . The International Olympic Committee released the official list of bid cities on Friday after the deadline for applications had passed. Miron Bleiberg has urged Football Federation Australia to take full advantage of a surfeit of A-League expansion bidders and start planning for an 18-team competition now.Two teams will be added in the 2018-19 season to make it a 12-team league, but Bleiberg - who is associated with a Brisbane Strikers bid - sees no reason why the governing body should stop there.Close to a dozen different parties are waiting on criteria to be released by FFA in February before they progress further with their proposals.Bleiberg believes with enthusiasm for the A-League so high at the moment, no strong applications should be turned away.FFA has done an excellent job with the A-League in the last few years. You can see how many bidders there are, it is a hot commodity, Bleiberg told AAP.From what it looks to me, there are a lot of strong bids.So for me, its not enough for FFA to think in the short-term to admit two teams now into the A-League to expand it to 12.They also have to look at the future and also give a guideline about when it will be extended to 14, 16 and 18 so these strong bids willl not disappear.ddddddddddddWhatever markets suit FFA should be for the immediate future, but the others should also be used to get us to the ideal number.A-League chief Greg ORourke told News Corp earlier this week any new team would have to add value for all existing stakeholders. He also said FFAs primary focus for the next five to seven years would be expansion, determining the right number of teams and the right markets. Its expected FFA will heavily favour teams based in major population centres, like Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, to provide the biggest boost to the A-Leagues incoming broadcast deal for this round of expansion. But impressive regional bids from Tasmania and Wollongong will make it a complex decision - which is why Bleiberg wants them to strike while the irons hot.Now is the right time, the A-Leagues doing well - credit to FFA - and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. Maybe tomorrow that will not be the case, Bleiberg said. ' ' '
